Bennett Bayes drives away from the Win a Tandem Truck contest a winner
(Calgary, March 1, 2012) – Dow AgroSciences and the Western Producer presented Mr. Bennett Bayes with a brand new 2012 International 7500 Tandem Truck with box from Southland International today. The winner was one of six finalists who had a chance to start up the truck at a unique celebration event outside the main pavilion of the AgExpo in Lethbridge, AB. Bennett’s was the fifth key.
“I’m just so very excited, I don’t know what to say,” says Bennett. “It’s such a great opportunity for me to have, just as I’m getting going in my farming career. Thanks so much to Dow AgroSciences and the Western Producer.” Bennett and his Mom and Dad left Ag Expo in Lethbridge, AB shortly after starting the truck to drive it home to Trochu, drop it off and head to Calgary to catch his return flight to Saskatoon. Bennett is a second-year student at the University of Saskatchewan studying agri-business. “I’ve got class tomorrow, so I better get back to school.”
Jim Wispinski, President of Dow AgroSciences, thanked growers for their willingness to tell their tandem truck tales. “We had high hopes that this giveaway would greatly impact the operation of a Canadian grower, but we were absolutely blown away by the enthusiasm of growers to talk about their existing – and in some cases long-gone – trucks. Each entry had rich history behind it, and each shared photograph speaks volumes about the farming community.”
Roughly 200 people gathered to see the awarding of the grand prize after a year-long contest whereby farmers could enter photos of their existing trucks and share some of their truck stories. Some of the entries were featured in the Western Producer and a custom calendar that went out at the beginning of 2012.
“This contest has really resonated with growers,” adds Kelly Berg of the Western Producer. “It’s been a great year and we got to see a deserving producer drive off in a new tandem.”
The finalists that were not fortunate enough to win the truck, didn’t go home empty handed, each was awarded a case of Tandem Herbicide to use on their farms.
The contest drew over 4,200 entries and 55,000 visits to the website. The entries from the past year can still be viewed online, and the promotion will have a second phase starting up later this month. Instructions for Contestants
- Take a picture of your grain truck. Make sure the entire truck is visible in the photo. We encourage photos of all trucks. All makes, models, old trucks, new trucks, ones with flat tires. If you use it on your farm, we want to see it.
- Give your photo a title
- Upload a photo (.jpg) to www.winatandemtruck.ca
- Tell your friends and family about the contest. Tell them to enter to win a Tandem truck and to send in their own photos for their chance to win a Canon EOS digital camera. One Tandem truck and one Canon EOS Rebel T2i digital camera will be awarded after the contest closes in January 2012.
